All My Children: My Real Life Soap Opera Worthy Story.

Updated: Apr 22, 2019

Anyone who knows my husband really well, knows that Soap Operas were a guilty pleasure of his for years. He worked swing shift and graveyard for the better part of the first eight years of our marriage, which meant that he was home in the afternoons. He soon discovered that eating lunch while enjoying an afternoon Soap suited him really well. He convinced a neighborhood boy, who was my brother's friend, and was 7 years my husband's junior to accompany him sometimes. (I'm not sure how this boy's mother felt about that and I retrospectively apologize.) At the time, I was going to school full time and, being a dance major, I didn't get to be home much. My time with Joe, my husband, was pretty limited. We stayed in touch throughout the day with texts. Like clockwork, everyday at about 1:30 in the afternoon, I would receive a text from Joe that began, "OMG" (which in our world is interpreted Oh My Gosh) and then he would proceed to give me a play by play of what had happened on his soap that day. It was a little joke between us and we would laugh together at the ridiculousness of the story lines. I can't tell you the amount of earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, personalities disorders, botched maternity tests, surprise pregnancies, facial plastic surgeries, false identities, near death, and real death (most of which were later revealed to be fake deaths) happened in the small town of Llanview, but I can tell you that it reviled that of Gotham. Those were some good care free days for us, and I can't help but look back and laugh thinking of my husband eating his lunch in front of the tv and watching Soap Operas. I'm not sure very many wives can relate, but it's little things like this make me love Joe, his quirks are endearing to me. This time of our lives was, of course, way before we had children, and little did we know that we would, in the future, live out our own Soap Opera-esque experiences. So, I invite you to sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy the retelling of my personal Soap Opera story: All My Children: Weight Style.
